No longer is a kitchen just one room to prepare meals or wash dishes.  It’s now often an extension of a family or dining room, and with open layouts, it can even be an extension of a living room!

Today’s bath can look like a spa, Roman palace, or anything else that you want.

At David Waller Interiors in Port Orange, we are the experts in interior design. We’ve been around for over 40 years, so we can advise you on any aspect of a kitchen or bathroom remodel, and it doesn’t matter if you're remodeling kitchen countertops in Deltona, FL or you’re doing a bathroom remodeling in Orange Beach.

Here are some things to think about when planning a kitchen or bathroom remodel:

● Layout:  The kitchen work triangle has always been a very important part of any kitchen design, because it determines efficiency. It’s a concept that draws an imaginary line between the three most-used appliances for tasks completed by the cook: range, sink and refrigerator. The thought behind this is that when these three appliances are near each other, it makes it cuts down on wasted steps,  which also contributes to a more efficient traffic flow.

● Storage: Don’t think only in terms of cabinet shelves. Look for pull out cutting boards or cabinet lazy Susans. Many kitchen islands come with drawers and shelves and do double duty by also giving you additional counter space. We’ve even seen clever ideas that include sliding ladders, étagères, and shelves placed in awkward corners or window sills.  In other words, every inch of space counts!

● Lighting: This depends on the size of the room being lit. Make sure you know the square footage, bring it with you when you are shopping for lights, and know that kitchens and baths will often require more.

● As for the bath remodeling, ask yourself these questions:  What’s the size of the room?  Will more than one person be using it? Will this be used primarily as a family or a guest bath? What’s your preferred style? Spa-like? Sleek? Roman palazzo? Purely functional?  What’s your budget”? It’s important to know this so you understand that even something like a highly designed tile isn’t necessarily out of your reach; just use it as an accessory around grout lines or such.
